Goldilocks
Okay, so the other day, a friend was commenting on my monthly reading list and asked when I found the time to read. In the ensuing discussion, she described herself as a “goldilocks” when it comes to reading–she needs to have everything juuuuuust right to be able to focus. This caught my attention because, first, I thought that was a charming way of describing the condition, but, two, while we’ve talked about our reading habits, this is an interesting wrinkle. I’d never really thought about it that way.
So, this is my question to you–are you a Goldilocks kind of reader?
Do you need the light just right, the background noise just so loud but not too loud, the chair just right, the distractions at a minimum?
Or can you open a book at any time and dip right in, whether it’s for twenty seconds, while waiting for the kettle to boil, or indefinitely, like while waiting interminably at the hospital–as long as the book is open in front of your nose, you’re happy to read?
I can read anywhere and always do. I carry a book with me and am ready to plunge into it at a moment’s notice. I get a chuckle out of some people like my chiropractor as the moment I get into the room for my appt and am waiting for him, my book is out and I am far away..lol
So, YES as long as the book is open, I AM happy to read.
I guess it is partially from necessity as I lead a life where(as for most people) my non working hours seem so short and I have learned to cram in reading anywhere I possibly can.

I can read pretty much anywhere, anytime. I’m used to getting distracted by noise and kids! But the best place for me to read is in bed, alone!
I bet it’s hard with your little boys so active!
Yes the very best place is bed(but then I start to fall asleep…lol)
My former dentist and I would always talk about the books I was reading. I knew to keep my book with me when I would go and sit in the dental chair because she always took so long getting to me. Of course, she always seemed to ask me questions about what I was reading at the most inappropriate times. Haha

Oh that IS funny! Arg, ones’ mouth all full of equipment etc…
My chiropractor likes to discuss books I have with me but that’s before he adjusts me…
I love that feeling of being able to just open a book and fall right under its spell. It has to be a good author to get that effect on me though.
Yes I sure know what you mean;I often search a long time for good authors(guess I am getting picky…lol)
I have similar answers like yours. My friends really thought I’m odd for reading just about anytime and anywhere… I think they’re odd for not reading the way I do. LOL.
I agree with YOU!
As a famous quote(unknown to me, author) goes,
“Why read?”
“Why not?”
LOL!

I read everything and anything all over the place. I read a quote once where someone said if he fell over Niagara Falls in a barrel he’d be reading the label inside ‘this barrel made ….’ that would be me too
.Me too…lol!
