We went to visit with my Mom yesterday. She is doing well still at almost 94; lucky enough to be living in her own house and enjoying life with no hassles. Oh she does have things which annoy her (she keeps up to date with news and canĀ discuss/argue well on any subject.) She is one smart cooky.
But I digress..
We were having tea and the subject of deer came up. We have thousands of these cheeky rascals, and they infiltrate every neighbourhood. No area is safe from their maruading jaws.
So we were enjoyably slanging this particular animal and comparing notes . We all agreed that the average deer is so unafraid of people here that if one tries to shoo them out of theĀ garden, they simply calmly LOOK at one(probably thinking “what an odd creature, what COULD it be trying to communicate.”?.
Mom really hates deer. She will rush screaming out of her house , banging pot lids together if she sees any.. It is quite the contrast; one minute, calmly drinking tea, the next, a virtual explosion of emotion and action…
So anyway, we finished our visit, and went out to the car. In the driveway, sculking at the edge was , guess what?
You guessed it!
There it was; a large magnificent but quite young deer! It had a full spread of antlers, still covered with “velvet”, and was keeping quite still, watching us covertly…its absurdly large and charming nose obviously trying to catch a scent of us(impossible as we were by this time inside the car)
H said, “Shall we tell Mom?” LOL(what do you think, did we?)
