Bad Hair cuts and experiences

I have had my share of bad hair cuts and terrible stylists who simply didn’t listen to what I wanted or more often who thought that they knew better than me (so did what they wanted; often to my chagrin)

I have curly hair and somehow it was always a challenge to find a stylist who, “understood”, this hair type; not sure why!  After all it is at least half of the population who  is similarly blessed and one would think that in the styling schools that SOME time would be spent explaining how to cut it.

YET in my unfortunate experiences the average stylist would try to cut MY hair like one would someones’ straight hair; ie, putting on tons of products and THEN blow drying it to death so that it looked straight.

(Not what I ever wanted)

I would go home and wash it again and find that it was terribly cut. It would be weirdly puffy and often asymmetrical. The curls would be non existent because EVERY stylist told me that took accentuate curly hair one HAD to have layers(WRONG).

So then I wouldn’t go back to that salon and be forced to search again for a curly hair savvy stylist.

I had a great one; a fellow who had very curly hair himself. He was a motorbike and race car enthusiast as well( well rounded fellow..lol) and one had to endure engine and the related  talks  rather than cosy gossips about celebrities. He eventually abandoned hair cutting altogether and now races full time.

Darn!

Then H tried to be helpful (he cuts his own hair with much success).

But two or three inches is much different than 14 or 15..

He tried but I must say that he fell into the population that is  non curly hair cognisant. He constantly wanted to thin it,(and add layers…lol).

:D

Suffice it to say, now, he is happy that I am happy with my new stylist as it has taken a LOT of pressure off of him…lol!

  1. Yes, I think in this day & age everybody is obsessed with hair straighteners (I know I love mine, LOL!!!) so probably most stylists just assume that anyone with curly hair wouldn’t want it to stay curly! I for one love curly hair. But mine is just “wavy” and the waves are weird and random, hence the need to straighten it.
My husband has curly hair too and once grew it fairly long. It was hard finding somebody who could trim it properly. Now he has it short so it’s not an issue.

Yes you are so right, obsessed is it!
You have nice hair Hannah, I never knew that you straightened it!
Yes for men, it’s easier if its quite short.
(My stylist with the curly hair had LONG hair, cascading down his back..lol!)
