Great for a late autumn evening

I love being read to, and have always loved audio books.

They are so terrific for car trips or plane travel or simply on those days when it feels right to relax and enjoy a story read by someone who is quite often a famous actor.

I came across an audio book by one of my favourite authors, Alexander McCall Smith, called, “The Dog Who came in From the Cold”; an Corduroy Mansions novel.

Here is the link from The Telegraph(an estimable online verison of the brit newspaper)

The Dog who came in from the Cold

As you can see, they are well into the book but if you look on the right side at the top, you can start with chapter one(either to read yourself or preferably to have Andrew Sachs read it to you)

(Manuel of Fawlty Towers!)

  1. I too love audio-books, and I haven’t had one in a long while ever since
“Books on Tape” went belly up. If you know of a good “Books on CD” rental website, please please please pass it on. I miss them so.

    Oh that is too bad!
I never thought of renting them?
    Have you tried searching online?

    Is THIS it?
    This looks promising?

  2. Manuel??? He was my favorite next to John Cleese of course – I loved Fawlty Towers. I like audiobooks for car trips, too. But once we took a historical trip and the audiobook we were listening to was read by the author, a well-known Southern historian with a very pronounced Southern accent and it lulled us to sleep!!! We had to stop listening to it because Devoted Spouse was getting so sleepy and he was driving! LOL
    Yes Manuel was Great!
I think I loved them all equally..Sybil used to make me just screamwith laughter when she was on the phone(“oh I KNOW!!”..lol)
Oh that is too funny but GOOD that you didn’t keep listening to it then! :)
