Blackberries in late summer

I cannot believe it has gotten to that time of year; the mornings are cooler and the blackberries are slowly ripening. They are about 3 weeks behind in ripeness because it’s been a cooler than normal summer.

Harvey picks a few, and magically finds the ones that ARE ripe, rather than the ones which LOOK ripe.

We had a little collie when I was a child; she looked like this

Her name was Fiona.

Fiona LOVED blackberries.

She would go out with us to pick them and we would give her a few , then continue picking. Then you would look  around and she would be eating them off of the bushes, carefully rolling back her lips so that she wouldn’t get prickled…lol!

nighttime antics

No I am NOT talking about what you think; the bedroom door remains firmly shut upon all such topics.

I am referring instead to sharing one’s bed, and how it works for you.

When I was a kid  was one of those snugglers who almost EVERY night (from about age 2 to age 7 or so)would appear at my parent’s bedside, a little pale wraith standing silently WILLING my Mom or Dad to feel my presence (as I knew better than to wake them, that ALWAYS resulted in immediate banishment back to my own bed) The silent approach would always work, and I would be allowed in(so joyously , so much more comfy than my own lonely little bed, lol)

When I grew up, I soon realized that much as I loved my boyfriends or later husband, I didn’t enjoy the nightly battle for dominion over sheets, blankets, and the better part of the bed. It seemed that every one would start out quietly enough but by the middle of the night, I would be on the very edge of the bed with no sheet OR blanket to shield me from the cold.

Now Harvey is a quiet sleeper but SOMEHOW manges not just to steal the bedding but also manages to wrap it around himself so there is no way to extricate a decent share without waking him (and I don’t want to wake him as I know how important ones’ sleep is…)

BUT it is most disconcerting to awaken in a slightly chilly room to find that one is only covered by a napkin sized piece of sheet PLUS that ones side of the bed has been taken over by apparently a dozen legs, all large and heavy and quite frankly ON MY SIDE (lol)

Here’s an entertaining article about just this subject
