This is my attempt at writing a “poem” only using the letter “S”..lol
Sensory sensations
surrounding summer seaside sweetness
slowly succumb
After a rather uninspiring June during which everyone here ran about telling each other how horrible the weather was, and how chilly and WHERE was the sun, and WHEN would summer finally make an appearance..the sun came finally back!
It began in a hesitating fashion, and teased us over a number of days; starting out cloudy in the morning and finally by the later afternoon suddenly shining in all its’ glory with blue blue skies as a lovely accessory.
But the next morning, back we’d be to clouds and chilliness again…
ugh…
But NOW it seems as though we are in for a heat wave.
This will give us all a chance to say”Ugh, it is TOO hot!” and,
“WHAT did they say that the temps would get to, today? REALLY? Oh that is TOO hot”….
LOL…
We love to talk about the weather.
Apparently it is a very Canadian thing; it is only Canadians and the residents of the UK who ALSO talk about the weather incessantly, I am told.
It brings us together I guess..it is the one subject that is “safe” and universal….
But for now, I am off to enjoy the smells and sounds of a warm afternoon on our sundeck..(this is NOT our house nor deck, but it looks lovely, doesn’t it!)
My best summer memory is when we would go out on my family’s boat.
My Dad was quite the old sea dog and loved being out on the water so it was natural that he would want his young family to enjoy this passtime with him.
We would go to all of the smaller islands around coastal British Columbia and either anchor in the harbours or else would tie up at the government wharfs.
The latter part was OUR favourite because there was sure to be a little village with a store that sold candy and pop.
Then we would love to go for long exploratory walks along the country roads with our little border collie roaming far and wide beside us.
Waking up on the boat was lovely; the smell of the sea air, the sound of the water lapping on the wooden sides and the perpetual motion of rocking all combined to make memories that I have never forgotten.
It was a chilly spring here, and indeed, even until a few days ago we wondered if the summer would be passed over and plummet us into fall instead.
But today was lovely; warm and a bit muggy but who is complaining?
(Well me as I was working inside where it was stinking hot, but this was soon remedied once I was finished work)
I guess the kids are already OUT for the summer which seems weird but only because we didn’t get that lovely graduated warming day upon day until now.
Remember when you were a kid at this time of year how nice it was to feel that huge long expanse of empty days ahead of one…
Teachers are the only others who similarly benefit from the long break but DON’T they deserve it…
So happy summer to everyone!
I have photos but as usual am lazy(well we only just got in..)
We stayed in Qualicum BAY, not beach as I had mistakenly thought…lol
The Lighthouse Motel was FABULOUS!

This is what we looked out upon from our ground level suite.
Here is our Oceanview suite

living/kitchen area
and bedroom
…both tiny but really clean and very quiet and pleasant!
It felt as though we were in Sweden or some Nordic country; the suite had a nautical motif(lighthouses being the operative word as the region is called Lighthouse country) I just LOVED the decor. They had a lovely tile floor which was not stone but looked it, and obviously was really easy to keep clean.
Here is another photo montage that shows the ocean view suite complex(we were at the near end)

These are photos from their site, but as I say I will get ours uploaded soon.
Our weather was HOT and SUNNY every day…
I will have lots of chat about what we did; starting tomorrow!
