I had a better day today; got to work and found that I was to work inside.

As I had gone prepared with my snow boots AND regular shoes I felt quite clever, lol. The day was lovely; quiet and warm. I got to work by myself(love that) too. After I had a break, I took some cut up apples outside and gave them to some HUNGRY bunnies.

We hightailed it over to my Mom’s in the afternoon to have tea with her and my sis; it was very pleasant for about an hour and a half.

When it started to NOT  be as much fun, we got to leave ( Love them both but in SMALL doses)   ;)

Then we came home via our fav restaurant .

The weather gurus are saying that we should expect more snow tonight; oh joy.

Our chains that we put on the tires have broken about three times. They hailed from a Canadian instution called Canadian Tire. This store used to be ok but is now more of a joke than anything. They won’t even put the chains on for the customer(they USED to) so one has to either fuss around oneself or else get a garage to do it.

We would have bought chains ANYWHERE else were they available but as we don’t get snow here (REMEMBER?)no such luck.

Luckily H is very handy and resourseful and has managed to fix them each time but they won’t last, we can tell!

Enjoying Escape the Museum game and enduring work

I have Escape the Museum and am enjoying it tremendously.

It is very challenging and the only reason that I am blogging right now is because I am stuck…lol. I am in a hallway and trying to find a sword so that I can knock down a pillar which is somehow connected to a display case…

:D

Please don’t tell me if you have the solution(there are lots of help sites online and I am actually enjoying figuring things out on my own, especially as there are no time constraints)

It is quite relaxing!

******************************************

Notice the colours, in honour of the season..lol

In the land of reality though, snow abounds and there might be more on the way.

I had to work today and the next two days which normally would not be a big deal as  it will be nice to be paid before our 8 day lay off.  My gripe IS that we had to work in outlying buildings and I had no idea that this would be the day’s course of events.

So I did not arrive to work with my snow boots on.

So I was not prepared to slog through hip high slippery snow drifts, especially carrying heavy bags of sheets and blankets. We cannot use trolleys(obviously, in this snow) and the pathways around these buildings are NOT cleared because the grounds crew are all happily OFF for the holidays.

Sigh.

I had a moment of joy when a co worker told me that the university was going to be shut down starting tomorrow so WE would not have to work. Of course no pay but after such a miserable day(we were all COLD,  with terribly running noses and wet feet); we didn’t care!

Smiling and laughing, we returned to the front office.

Then we found out that NO, this was false information. One could take the next 2 days as holidays if one had holidays left.

I have not.

Oh well; I will survive but refuse to sing..lol.

(PS we took pics of the snow so will get them on here SOON…)

Are we weather wimps?

A cute commentary in our local newspaper about the recent weather;

We’re (in British Columbia)  total wimps when it comes to winter, each floating flake sending us ducking and flinching like George Bush on a tour of the Florsheim factory.

And lord but it makes the rest of the country feel good to watch us dig the Westfalia out of the ditch. OK, we get it. Everybody likes to see the princess step in a cow pie. But please, did Mother Nature really have to chuck us headfirst into the barnyard? I mean, this week we’ve entertained the country with much more than our usual seasonal slapstick. Not only did it snow, but it snowed and stayed. We normally deal with snow the same way we deal with a jealous spouse on the doorstep: Close the drapes and ignore it, eventually it will go away. Not this time. This time it not only stayed, but called in friends with baseball bats.

And that howling wind! Put the dog out to pee, it phoned half an hour later from Port Renfrew, asked for a ride home. The only good thing about the wind was not having to put up the Christmas lights this year. Just waited for the neighbours’ display to blow over and plugged it in. And cold? It has been -8 C, or -18 with the wind chill — not that this impresses anyone who lives beyond Hope.

The rest of Canada doesn’t believe in wind chill. It’s like saying a player stands six foot eight with his skates on, when he’s really only six foot five. You want wind? Try the Prairies. I used to live in Regina. Go to the west side of town, you could find Big Mac containers that had blown in from Edmonton. Go to the east, you could smell the stench of rotting principles wafting in from Ottawa. If we drag wind chill into the equation, Reginawanianites, or whatever, will just think we’re soft as Charmin.

This is not true. For example, earthquakes don’t faze us at all. This being B.C., half the people don’t even notice when the house starts shaking, figure it’s just the brown acid from Woodstock coming back to haunt them.

Earthquake shmearthquake. But I digress. The point is that we all like a good joke, but enough is enough. This was not in the brochure. If Gordon Campbell wants to be re-elected in May, he had better darn well do something about the weather. And if Canada wants a good laugh, it should go back to watching Rick Mercer.

FINISHED tai chi beginners!

yin-yangWe finished our beginner’s class tonight!

We have learned the 108 moves and now the fun begins as we delve into  the subtle nuances of the set. VERY, very neat.

I was glad I got there; we have put chains on our little car so can go every where with ease, regardless of the weather.

The chains are fine on the little still covered roads but are a total embarrassment other wise. We sound like a TANK chuntering along.

(and of course NOW all the streets are clear and there will be no more snow until MAYBE Sunday)

OH well!
